The line of Ryan Amirsehhi centering Nolan Irion and Max Zlochevsky set the tone from theoutset with sign [...] ]]></description><content:encoded><![CDATA[<div  class="paragraph editable-text" style=" text-align: left; ">Sunday, September 18, 2011 (Black Stars vs Cougars)<br /><br />On Sunday, the Black Stars Squirt B team won its first game of the pre-season with a dominating 12-2 victory over<br />the visiting San Mateo Cougars. The Black Stars raced out to a 4-0 first period lead and continued their fine play<br />throughout the game. The line of Ryan Amirsehhi centering Nolan Irion and Max Zlochevsky set the tone from the<br />outset with significant pressure on the Cougars&rsquo; goal during the opening shift of the game. The Amirsehhi line had<br />a strong game overall and accounted for all four first period goals. The Black Stars other two lines and defensemen<br />were also impressive throughout the game. Goal scorers for the Black Stars were Max Zlochevsky (4), Isaiah<br />McKinney (3), Hank Twichell (2), Christian Castelo, Nolan Irion, and Quentin Kinney.<br /><br />In the third period, at the direction of the coaching staff, the Black Stars focused on their passing game and did a<br />nice job of puck movement and overall control. Dylan Desilva had a strong game in goal, making two breakaway<br />saves in the first period while the result of the game was still in the balance. The Blue Devils took advantage of Black<br />Stars penalties, scoring two power play goals.<br /><br />Tri-Valley opened the scoring five minutes into the first period. The Black Stars responded two minutes later with<br />Christian Castelo&rsquo;s wrist shot high to the stick side after a feed from Jeremy Hsu. The Blue Devils regained the lead<br />on a power play goal with five minutes left in the first period before taking a 3-1 lead early in the second period.<br />The Black Stars drew to within 3-2 when Max Zlochevsky converted a Quentin Kinney pass. Tri-Valley pulled<br />away in the third period with a power play goal and an even strength goal to make the score 5-2. The Black Stars<br />continued to battle, and Isaiah McKinney scored an unassisted goal with eight minutes remaining to account for the<br />5-3 final. The Black Stars showed good hustle in the remaining minutes, but could not convert their chances. In a back and forth contest, Santa Rosa ultimately prevailed 4-2, but the<br />Black Stars can be proud of a strong performance. Timothy King and Christian Castelo scored and Dylan<br />Desilva had a strong game in goal for the Black Stars.<br /><br />The first period featured end to end action and ended with a 0-0 score. The Black Stars took the lead<br />in the second period on King&rsquo;s goal, as he scored on his own rebound after being setup on a nice feed<br />from Max Zlochevsky. Santa Rosa tied the game midway through the period scoring a fine mid-air one-<br />timer past DaSilva before going ahead with six minutes left in the period on a deflection. The Black<br />Stars fought back and tied the game 2-2 with three minutes remaining in the period. Castelo stepped<br />up from his defense position and maneuvered around two Santa Rosa players before shooting into the<br />top corner. The third period began with good pressure from the Black Stars on the Santa Rosa goal.<br />Midway through the period, Santa Rosa broke the deadlock to go ahead 3-2. The Black Stars responded<br />less than a minute later with Ryan Amirsehhi firing a wrist shot which beat the Santa Rosa goalie but<br />clanged off the post. As the game wound down, the Black Stars pressed for the tying goal and Desilva<br />continued to make a number of fine saves. Finally, with less than a minute remaining, Santa Rosa iced<br />the game with an unstoppable goal in the top corner to account for the 4-2 final.<br /><br />Hunter Esqueda, Jeremy Hsu, Nolan Irion, Quentin Kinney, and Zeke Wilson contributed with strong<br />two-way performances at forward. Defensemen Karl Flick, Isaiah McKinney, and Hank Twichell played<br />solid defensive games for the Black Stars.<br /></div>  ]]></content:encoded></item></channel></rss>
