First game of the Season! 08/22/2011
On Saturday, The Black Stars Squirt B team inaugurated their 2011-2012 season with a spirited road contest versus Santa Rosa. In a back and forth contest, Santa Rosa ultimately prevailed 4-2, but the Black Stars can be proud of a strong performance. Timothy King and Christian Castelo scored and Dylan Desilva had a strong game in goal for the Black Stars. The first period featured end to end action and ended with a 0-0 score. The Black Stars took the lead in the second period on King’s goal, as he scored on his own rebound after being setup on a nice feed from Max Zlochevsky. Santa Rosa tied the game midway through the period scoring a fine mid-air one- timer past DaSilva before going ahead with six minutes left in the period on a deflection. The Black Stars fought back and tied the game 2-2 with three minutes remaining in the period. Castelo stepped up from his defense position and maneuvered around two Santa Rosa players before shooting into the top corner. The third period began with good pressure from the Black Stars on the Santa Rosa goal. Midway through the period, Santa Rosa broke the deadlock to go ahead 3-2. The Black Stars responded less than a minute later with Ryan Amirsehhi firing a wrist shot which beat the Santa Rosa goalie but clanged off the post. As the game wound down, the Black Stars pressed for the tying goal and Desilva continued to make a number of fine saves. Finally, with less than a minute remaining, Santa Rosa iced the game with an unstoppable goal in the top corner to account for the 4-2 final. Hunter Esqueda, Jeremy Hsu, Nolan Irion, Quentin Kinney, and Zeke Wilson contributed with strong two-way performances at forward. Defensemen Karl Flick, Isaiah McKinney, and Hank Twichell played solid defensive games for the Black Stars. CommentsAnne 09/14/2011 20:30
