Saturday, September 17, 2011 (Black Stars vs Tri-Valley Blue Devils) On Saturday, the Black Stars Squirt B team played a spirited contest against the Tri-Valley Blue Devils at Ice Oasis. Despite a strong effort from the Black Stars, Tri-Valley prevailed 5-3. The Blue Devils took advantage of Black Stars penalties, scoring two power play goals. Tri-Valley opened the scoring five minutes into the first period. The Black Stars responded two minutes later with Christian Castelo’s wrist shot high to the stick side after a feed from Jeremy Hsu. The Blue Devils regained the lead on a power play goal with five minutes left in the first period before taking a 3-1 lead early in the second period. The Black Stars drew to within 3-2 when Max Zlochevsky converted a Quentin Kinney pass. Tri-Valley pulled away in the third period with a power play goal and an even strength goal to make the score 5-2. The Black Stars continued to battle, and Isaiah McKinney scored an unassisted goal with eight minutes remaining to account for the 5-3 final. The Black Stars showed good hustle in the remaining minutes, but could not convert their chances.
